South Texas Road Rallye & Annual Region Awards Dinner
Coastal Bend Region Porsche Club of America
Saturday, July 25, 2009 - Note other changes to proposed schedule!
Purpose
The purpose of the South Texas Road Rallye is foremost to have fun for all participants. Secondarily, it is a competitive event. Fun will trump competition in key decisions. Fun simply requires you to register promptly and drive to the destination safely. In terms of competition, this IS NOT a speed event. Rallye WINNERS will be determined based upon a predetermined route and driving experience that stays within posted speed limits and obeys all traffic laws. The Club will not tolerate or promote reckless driving or excessive speed.
What is the Rallye?
The South Texas Road Rallye is a driving event wherein participants (a driver and his/her crew) follow a certain route and try to match a predetermined official route time. The participants’ times are compared to the official time and the closest time is declared the winner. The crew consists of a co-driver, a navigator, your mother or mother-in-law, the unruly children, a few beautiful women (or handsome men)…a person or thing generally requiring a seatbelt. Basically, everyone else in the car is your “crew.” Sorry, no pets.
Who can participate?
The Rallye is open to PCA members, friends of PCA members, relatives of PCA members, and/or people who don’t know a PCA member -- so, pretty much everyone. You must have a driver’s license, a car, a way to enroll on clubregistration.net, a PayPal account, and/or another way to pay the registration and meal fees.
What is the official route?
There will be three official routes:
• Rio Grande Valley to King’s Inn at Riviera Beach, Texas.
• Corpus Christi to King’s Inn at Riviera Beach, Texas.
• Laredo to King’s Inn at Riviera Beach, Texas.
A route map and guide will be developed for each route explaining the start, the finish, and waypoints along the route. Start time will be determined with a time-imprinted receipt from a gas station or quick mart. Information will need to be collected from specified points en route, such as details from a sign or historic marker. Clues will be provided to approximate the speeds needed to best match the official time. Finally, the finish time will be given at King’s Inn. Start times will be determined for each route in order to stage arrival at King’s Inn for late lunch/early dinner.
Participants will be asked to arrive at start locations 15 minutes prior to the official depart time.
RGV – Start (Edinburg): 1:15 p.m., arrive King’s Inn approximately 3:15 p.m.
Corpus Christi - Start: 2:00 p.m., arrive King’s Inn approximately 3:00 p.m.
Laredo – Start: 12:00 p.m., arrive King’s Inn approximately 2:45 p.m.
FINAL ROUTES and TIMES are being developed and entrants will be provided a map and guide prior to the event.
What are the award categories?
Inexpensive and generally gaudy trophies will be provided for the following categories:
WINNER - Closest to Official Time – RGV to King’s Inn
WINNER - Closest to Official Time – Corpus Christi to King’s Inn
WINNER - Closest to Official Time – Laredo to King’s Inn
RALLYE SPIRIT AWARD (recipient to be determined)
FERRY PORSCHE AWARD - Best Porsche Entry
CANNONBALL AWARD - Most Unusual Entry
What about food at King’s Inn?
Upon arrival at King’s Inn, participants and their crews will be served a late lunch consisting of a variety of family-style seafood dishes, salads, and appetizers. Tables will seat 20 and will progressively fill up as cars arrive. Food service will run to the conclusion of the event at 5:15 p.m.
What will it cost?
Each entry (vehicle) in the Rallye will be $10. Each participant, driver and crew, in the vehicle will be charged $25, to cover the cost of the food at King’s Inn. Because food is served family-style to each table, it is required that every participant pay, no matter the age. Unless it’s a baby with a bottle - all children and adults will be charged. There are no provisions for non-dining participants, as this Rallye IS to King’s Inn, a famous South Texas restaurant. Alcoholic beverages and desserts will be served to individuals and they may run their own tab for these items. Alcohol and King’s Inn dessert is not included in your meal fees.
How do I register and pay?
Registration will be on clubregistration.net. Each participant will create an account (or if you have an account), log in, find the PCA Coastal Bend Region Rallye Event Sign Up, select the event, REGISTER, select the entry fee of $10, identify the number of meals needed (one for each of your crew) and add $25 for each. The minimum fee is $35, the maximum depends upon how many riders you have. Clubregistration.net will require you to send money via PayPal or mail a check to Rene Molina.
We are discouraging payment on-site and non-registered arrivals. Clubregistration.net is our preferred method for registering for Region motorsports events.
Registration will close on July 21 in order to notify King’s Inn of the size of our party and make final route arrangements and adjustments. After July 21, additional participants and refunds of registration meal costs will be managed on a case-by-case basis. Our ability to refund meal costs will likely be determined following the event.
