March 28, 2008 - Harris Hill Road in San Marcos. The March 14 event was postponed until March 28. But good things came to those who wait(ed)! It was an awesome day at the track. See some of the photos at www.rgvpca.org. The Harris Hill Road event on March 28th was a wonderful day on track. About 36 drivers participated in a the spectacular Hill Country setting for a full day’s worth of driving and timing. There were three SOLO run groups and each got three 30+ minute sessions. The day ended with time trials. The track went cold about 5:00 after the exciting day.

February 21, 2009 - Cameron Co., RGV Airport - "The art of racing in the rain..." Who says it never rains in South Texas. The event was called short for rain associated with a cold front. We got in a few runs, but the day was disappointing for all. Sunday came along with perfect weather, cool and dry, for our PCA Instructors Clinic. Several Saturday entrants got to run a mini-DE while about 20 worked with the Instructors Clinic. In all, it was a weekend for those with a racer's heart.
THANKS to all involved in the weekend...especially the many Corpus Christi folks who came down and endured the rain.

January 17, 2009 - Cameron Co., RGV Airport - FIRST DE and TT of the year. What a fantastic January day in the Valley. We were able to get the road sweeper out beforehand and clean up the 1.6 mile, CCW course. There were about 25 participants in two run groups. Each group got three sessions and one open session. Eleven cars ran time-trials. Track conditions were exceptional and the day went without problem. There were several first-timers who caught on very quickly. In all, it was exactly what HPDE should be - fun, fun, fun.

December 6, 2008 - Cameron Co. RGV Airport - Last DE and TT of the year. This event was for Toys for Tots. There were about 20 participants for a cool December day in the Valley. We were able to run through the almost-drained Gator Pond. It was a great start to the fabulous WINTER season of driving in deep South Texas.

December 4, 2008 - Weslaco, TX - Annual Elections resulted in the designation of the following officers: Rene - President, Russell - VP, Jim - Treasurer, and Pat - Secretary. In Corpus, Juan and Randy will work together for that area.

November 20, 2008 - Corpus Christi, TX - A local group of Porsche enthusiasts met at Rudy's Bar-B-Q for beers and fun discussions. The group included old timers like Ben, Tinker, and Juan, as well as many new folks, too! We talked about the history of the Club, some of the current challenges, and ideas for the future in this area. Attendence at this meeting showed that there is tremendous potential in our area for the PCA despite the current issues with Cabaniss and Waldron.

November 13, 2008 - Corpus Christi, TX - There was another great lunch with all the Corpus old guard of the PCA (they meet every DAY!). We've be posted the locations of their haunts on the Corpus Christi. Call Peter to make sure of the location.

November 8, 2008 - San Marcos, TX - The CBR hosted a High Performance Driving Event for experienced drivers at Harris Hill Road, aka "H2R," a private track located in San Marcos, Texas. The participants had a fantastic time pushing their skills and their cars to the limits. This marvelous course is comprised of 11 turns over 1.8 miles, with elevation changes of 150 ft. Faster cars easily achieved speeds in excess of 100 m.p.h. It was a perfect weather day. Thanks to the great folks at H2R for their support and encouragement. Watch this site and the FORUM for our calendar and DO NOT MISS your next opportunity to run with our club at H2R.

October 19, 2008 - Mercedes, TX - The Autocross event at the Mercedes Live Stock Show fairgrounds last month was a first for the Coastal Bend PCA. Rene Molina our President for the 2008-year set up the use of the parking area and cover areas, so Steve Romans took charge and the work began. The afternoon before the event our crew of helpers received the chance to set up and design a semi-low speed course with safety the number one focus of the course layout. With several ideas for layout being attempted, the final product satisfied all involved with a final stop-in-the-box finish line; then the sweeping and debris picking up began and continued the next morning during the safety-walk-through. The first runs were a real adventure learning the course layout at speed with a behind the wheel view, selecting the right gear and learning where to brake. Due to the loose gravel on parts of the track street tires seemed to work better than sticky slicks and braking before the loose gravel helped keep way the spinout gremlins. Each run was a timed run with Start and Finish only fifty feet apart. After the lunch break the Stop-in-the-Box finish line was opened and everyone still stopped or coasted through with care. The event was only a break even deal, but the turnout of drivers that normally won’t even think of exposing their cars to a DE, may change their minds after all that fun in the park lot of Mercedes Live Stock Show fairgrounds
